Open Research Week 2027

The Open University (OU) will once again join forces with Midlands Innovation, Nottingham Trent University and De Montfort University to deliver Open Research Week 2027, a sector-wide celebration of open, transparent and inclusive research.

Taking place from 15 to 19 March 2027, the week will bring together researchers, technicians, professional services staff, students and sector organisations for a programme of online and in-person events exploring the future of open research.

Open Research Week has become an established fixture in the research culture calendar, providing opportunities to share practice, discuss emerging challenges and strengthen collaboration across institutions.

A new feature for 2027 will be the introduction of Open Research Awards, recognising individuals, teams and initiatives that are helping to advance open research practices and culture. Further details will be announced later this year.

The Open University is proud to be one of 11 partners supporting the initiative and looks forward to contributing to a week of discussion, collaboration and knowledge sharing across the research community.

Professor Theo Papaioannou, OU lead for Open Research said: "Open Research Week 2027 is a great opportunity for the OU to explore with other like-minded institutions how we can continue to embrace the spirit of openness by breaking down barriers which limit access to scientific knowledge and research outputs in the era of AI. I am looking forward to very exciting week in Spring 2027."
