Professional biography

Zoë is a Staff Tutor in LHCS and also EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) Lead for the school too. She leads the LHCS Access, Participation and Success team, and is a member of the STEM Faculty APS Group and EDIA Working Group. She is lead for the Athena Swan SAT in LHCS, and a member of the STEM Athena Swan Champion's Network. Zoë is a member of the STEM Professional Development facilitation group where she co-delivers training to staff across the faculty. 

Prior to joining the OU, Zoë was the Managing Director of a private-sector education and training provision. Zoë also has experience as a Biology lecturer in FE, working on NHS Assistant Practitioner apprenticeship development, and working in the NHS Blood and Transplant service. 

Outside of her role at The OU, Zoë is an experienced Access to Higher Education practitioner, published author and public speaker. She is also a freelance contractor working collaboratively across a range of industries on a variety of education-themed content development and quality assurance projects. 

Research interests

Zoë's current scholarship interests include collaborative projects with Louise MacBrayne looking at the impact of home experiments in S111 and S112; Janette Wallace looking at student community and sense of belonging; and Kate Harvey looking at the impact of assessment methods on module outcomes and student success rates.

Teaching interests

Zoë is a module team member for S112 - Science: concepts and practice, where she is responsible for supporting the biology content of this interdisciplinary module. Zoë is also Link Staff Tutor for SDK100 - Science and health: an evidence-based approach. 

Impact and engagement

Zoë is a peer reviewer for the Widening Participation and Lifelong Learning Journal, sits on The QAA's Access Regulation and Licensing Committee, and has been a STEM Ambassador for almost 15 years participating in a range of outreach and engagement activities to enthuse community groups about STEM.
