Profile summary

Professional biography

I completed my PhD with the Open University between 2019 and 2024 after gaining a BSc (Hons) Environmental Sciences with the OU during the preceding seven years. Working with the Floodplain Meadows Partnership and taking an applied approach, my research has examined the sustainable management of floodplain meadows to balance agricultural production with biodiversity conservation through the effect of seasonal management strategies such as hay cutting.

With a passion for creative science communication, I am also an award-winning science illustrator, storyteller and creative consultant. In spring 2024 I founded Inklusive Nature CIC to help connect science and society through use of creative methods to support engaged research that addresses issues related to inclusion and/or the biodiversity and climate crises. By nurturing engagement with the research process within underrepresented groups, I aim to increase impact by inspiring empowered action.

Engaging, eye-catching visuals are a key part of effective science communication, helping to build trust and start conversations, capturing hearts and minds. My academic experience includes both natural and social science methods, along with 20 years’ experience engaging various interest groups and publics in local government, third sector and academic settings. If you are interested in collaborating do get in touch to explore how we can work together on your community projects.

Impact and engagement

Alongside my part-time PhD research, I have been working as a SciArt illustrator and creative consultant since 2021, and founded Inklusive Nature CIC in 2024. I specialise in helping researchers increase engagement with their work through impactful visuals and creative co-production. I am delighted to have been recognised with a London and South East Prestige Award for this work.

A particularly impactful visual has been the Shoots to Roots poster created in collaboration with Irina Tatarenko in the Floodplain Meadows Partnership.
