Professional biography

Rachel is a Curriculum Tutor on the Primary PGCE Programme at the Open University in Wales. Rachel undertook a BA degree in Ancient History and Philosophy, followed by a MA in The History of Philosophy before completing a PGCE to become a primary teacher. She has twenty years teaching experience and continues to currently practice alongside her Open University role which she began in September 2024.

Research interests

Rachel has completed a further MA in English Studies where she explored depictions of female education within nineteenth century literature. She is currently undertaking a Professional Doctorate in Education focussing on the enactment of subsidiarity within the Curriculum for Wales framework. Her research interests also include teacher professionalism and children’s rights.

Teaching interests

As a keen practitioner, Rachel enjoys exploring ideas relating to curriculum design and pedagogy. She leads the Humanities Area of Learning Experience within her school setting and is particularly interested in the development of Religion, Values and Ethics as well as Philosophy for Children. As a primary Curriculum Tutor Rachel enjoys supporting the linking of educational theory to practice to assist student teachers to develop their own knowledge and effective classroom pedagogy.
