Ms Katy Schnitzler

I am currently studying for my PhD at The Open University, in the Faculty of WELS. My research is funded by the ESRC. 

My research investigates the often stigmatised topic of miscarriage from a workplace perspective. Specifically, I am exploring how the physical and psychological effects of early pregnancy loss impact upon work (and careers overall), common workplace behaviours and practices experienced (e.g., lack of formal policy, insensitive reactions, and even discrimination), following miscarriage, and the barriers women face when returning-to-work after such loss.  

My PhD research informs my consultancy, MIST Workshops. Through my work with MIST, I provide training and policy writing for organisations on pregnancy loss, infertility and childlessness. I have worked with various companies, including the NHS, global energy firms and baby loss charities, to name a few. 

Alongside my PhD, I also work as an HE lecturer in the fields of psychology, sociology, health and social care, business and research.
