Dr Kim Kullman

Professional biography

My research falls broadly within the area of social and cultural geography. I investigate how the designed objects and spaces of cities, from buildings and infrastructure to street furniture, shape everyday life and notably the capacity of different bodies to act and associate. In my current work, I have applied ethnographic as well as creative and collaborative methods to explore, among other things, an alternative politics of accessible architecture and the deployment of temporary urban installations as hostile design. My ResearchGate page contains further information on recent projects and publications.

I have written multimedia materials for undergraduate modules in Geography and Environmental Studies on themes such as air pollution sensing and urban flooding. As a Co-Chair of D225, I have been involved in developing a ‘blended fieldwork’ approach to facilitate more accessible forms of experiential learning and encourage research across online and offline settings. I am also a Centre Manager for the Joint Distance Learning Consortium's long-standing MSc in Urban and Rural Planning, one of the first distance degrees in the area, accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute.
