Daniel Russell joined the Open University as a Lecturer and Student Experience Manager in the Business School in February 2021. He has primarily worked with module teams on the delivery of level three modules along with SEM colleagues on the development of support and guidance around the role. He has also been an Open University Validation Panel (OUVP) chair on three programmes, working with partnership institutions.
Daniel has a PGDipEd (Advanced PGCE) and an MA in Teaching in Lifelong Learning. He has also been awarded Senior Fellowship of AdvanceHE (SFHEA).
Daniel is currently engaged in research on the provision of English for academic purposes (EAP) to level one students and its effect on retention, attainment, and student self-efficacy. He is also interested in the area of feedback/feed foward and how students access and engage with this successfully. Previous scholarship has examined the motivations behind student enrolment on 'D' (April start) presentation modules and the affect on retention and study at pace.
Daniel has a background in teaching English as a second/foreign language, English Skills for University Study (ESUS), and English for Academic Purposes (EAP). He has a track record of working with widening participation students in HE on academic practice skills such as research, ethics, academic integrity, presentation skills/poster presentation skills, deconstructing assignment briefs, and engaging with feedback and feed forward.
