Ahmed joined the Policing Organisation and Practice Team as a Lecturer in February 2019 and in 2022 was promoted to Senior Lecturer. He is part of the team designing and delivering the new Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) for new police officers, as well as contributing to the overall development of programmes under the Police Education Qualifications Framework (PEQF).
In 2020, he was appointed by the Director of Policing as the PCDA Qualification Lead. This role entails providing leadership and direction to lecturers and senior lecturers teaching on the various modules on the PCDA and working closely with police partner forces on the delivery of the PCDA to ensure new police officers reach full operational competency.
At Greater Manchester Police, Ahmed's last role was Evidence-Based Policing Research and Evaluation Lead. During this time, he designed and delivered GMP's first force-wide operation through an evidence-based methodology, testing the impact of targeted deterrence campaigns against traditional offender targeting methods in reducing serious acquisitive crimes in the commercial sector. In 2017, he was part of the team that established GMP's Evidence-Based Research Hub, one of the first in the UK, with the principle aim of ensuring that academic research could be translated and applied into operational police settings. In 2018, he received an Assistant Chief Constable's Award for his work on developing evidence-based policing at GMP and for his work on developing intelligence products for the force, including the 2018 Strategic Assessment.
Ahmed has extensive experience in delivering lectures and presentations on his work to Chief Officers, front-line policing, and government bodies such as the Home Office. His work has also seen him collaborate with key community partners in order to test and evaluate interventions focused on safeguarding vulnerable people, including the National Health Service and the Manchester United Foundation. He has also completed various training courses within policing, including National Intelligence Analyst Training (NIAT) and he is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy based off his work in teaching police officers.
