Professional biography

I obtained a first class BSc. (Hons.) in Biochemistry at Dundee University. I enjoyed gaining a M.Res in Bioinformatics at Glasgow University.  I completed a 4-year Wellcome Trust funded PhD in the Genetics of Type 1 Diabetes with Professor Linda Wicker.  I continued in Linda's lab as a Postdoctoral researcher and had a 9-month sabbatical at Harvard Medical School.  I've held Postdoctoral research roles at Manchester University and Leeds University.  Helped run Next Generation Sequencing at St James' Teaching Hospital in Leeds.

Since 2010 I have worked as an Associate Lecturer in the School of Life, Health and Chemical sciences at The Open University.  In September 2022 I became a Staff Tutor.

I am currently the LHCS Employability Lead and Student Support Team Lead and tutor on S317 Biological science: from genes to species.

Teaching interests

Teaching biology and health science from level 1 to 3. 

Focus on developing students employability skills and community building. 

Lead the organisation and delivery of LHCS Online enrichment sessions, Open for all Online Journal Clubs and Online Summer School. 

Also helped plan and organise the LHCS Bioinformatics boot camp.
