Profile summary

Professional biography

I am a lecturer in psychology at The Open University, where I have been working since 2022. Within the School of Psychology and Counselling, I hold the roles of Generative AI Lead and Academic Conduct Officer Lead. Before joining The Open University, I worked at Atlantic Technological University in Ireland as a lecturer and postdoctoral researcher in Teaching and Learning.

Research interests

A figure depicting my research interests that are broadly concerned with the application of Cognitive Experimental Psychology in the contexts of Alcohol and Alcohol Hangovers, Learning Analytics, Physical Activity and Wellbeing, and Teaching, Learning and Student Engagement

My research interests lie at the intersection of cognitive experimental psychology, focusing on areas such as decision making, memory, attention, human performance, well-being, and health interventions. I have an interest in how psychological states influence behaviour and performance, and applying emerging technologies to enhance methodological approaches in research.

A significant portion of my work has explored the effects of alcohol hangovers on cognitive function, and I am an active member of the Alcohol Hangover Research Group (AHRG). I am also interested in student engagement and the factors that influence it which reflects my broader commitment to understanding real-world applications of psychological principles. I am dedicated to advancing good practices in complex experimental design, driven by the values of open science and methodological rigor.

Teaching interests

My approach to teaching is rooted in cognition, collaboration, and transparency, and is informed by educational research and student feedback.

Last year, I was part of level one production teams for D110 (Exploring psychological worlds: thinking, feeling, doing) and D120 (Encountering psychology in context). As well as this, I was a presentation team member in DE200 (Investigating psychology 2). I am currently a member of the degree wide Research Methods Team in Psychology and Counselling, and I am co-chairing an Open Learn short course on Open Research.

I supervise postgraduate research degree students, and welcome inquiries from perspective students.
