Allan Mooney joined the Open University in 2010 as a part-time Associate Lecturer in the Business School tutoring level 3 and level 2 Business Strategy and Management modules
Allan completed his MBA and MSC in HRM at Caledonian University, prior to which he held the post of Head of Learning and Development within Forestry and Land Scotland, an agency of the Scottish Government. Allan has also been a CIPD lecturer at City of Glasgow College and the Chair of the CIPD Organisational Development Group and is currently a Chartered Fellow of CIPD , Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Certified Management Business Educator.
Allan has now worked at The Open University for 14 years and has previously been a student with the institution. He is currently a Senior Lecturer and Assistant Head of Student Experience, teaching two modules in the Business School at level 2 and level 3; B208 (Developing Leaderhip) and B329 (Leadership in a Complex World).
Allan’s previous research work was an Investigation into the application of learning within a Local Authority Housing Service. His next research project followed this theme further with ‘a critical examination of organisational training evaluation strategies'. The theme of his Senior Fellowship award was ‘theory into practice' which is a driving force of his research interests.. The next research project will extend this further in investigating the transfer of academic theory to workplace practice.
Allan’s scholarship work has centred around feedback to improve teaching practice, addressing the challenges of online synchronous learning and co-tutoring.
Allan is a Senior Lecturer in the Business School and has taught many modules including B201, B203, B301 and is currently tutoring B208 (developing Leaderhip) and B329 (Leadership in a Complex World).
Allan is an APLAUD mentor mentoring and supporting colleagues to gain Senior and Fellowhip of the Higher Education Academy. Allan has also been a mentor for new Associate Lecturers on all the modules he has tutored on in the OU.
Allan is also an Academic reviewer for Belfast Metropolitan College for two programmes of study.
