Professional biography

Dr. Manoharan Ramachandran is a Lecturer in the Department of Computing and Communications at the Open University, specializing in blockchain research and mobile application development. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Computer Science at Anna University, India (2013, 2015). In 2018, he earned his PhD in Intelligent Transportation Safety from Bournemouth University under the supervision of Professor Reza Sahandi, Dr. Simant Prakoonwit, and Dr. Wajid Khan.

Since joining the Open University in 2018 as a Research Associate, Manoharan has focused on exploring how blockchain technology can securely store lifelong learning records for students and create an industry-standard accreditation tool for UK learners. His research is funded by the Institute of Coding, a UK initiative aimed at enhancing computing skills and employability for graduates.

In addition to his academic work, Manoharan has developed multiple award-winning mobile applications in transportation safety. Notably, he received the Qualcomm Developer of the Month award in 2016 for his drowsy driver alert app, recognized for its innovation in road safety. He also contributed to the development of a COVID-19 antibody test and vaccination certification mobile application prototype for iOS and Android at the Open University.

Manoharan is also the creator of a popular Tamil-language YouTube channel focused on blockchain news and tutorials, serving the global Tamil-speaking community. His channel has grown significantly, with over 121,000 subscribers.
