With the media full of stories of division – allegations of anti-semitism, islamophobia, and information emerging around yesterday’s incident in Whitehall, it’s important to remember and draw attention to those who are challenging these narratives through positive action – encouraging messages of tolerance and peace to bring people together and unite different communities.
On 7 October, the Zainabiya Islamic Centre will be holding their annual walk for peace. It is part a wider interfaith programme of outreach by the Centre that promotes understanding and acceptance for all. Entry is free with refreshments provided. The walk itself starts at Milton Keynes Central Railway Station and finishes at The Church of Christ the Cornerstone, where there will be a series of activities, including readings, talks and video screenings. The event will also be raising funds, all of the proceeds of which will go to charities supported by the Centre that provide humanitarian aid to vulnerable and marginalised people around the world.
Visiting Research Fellow at the Open University, Dr Fidèle Mutwarasibo, will be attending and reporting back on the day, so watch out for his post.
