Day 143, Year of #Mygration: Year of Mygration film

The Open University marked 2018 as its Year of Mygration, designed to help emphasise how we are all affected by migration, whether or not we ourselves or immediate families are migrants. The issues of migration are vital to understanding not just current UK politics but also the world’s economies and communities. Every day we have been sharing a reflection on the broad theme of migration which showcases the work of the OU academics and our partners. We very much hope that you have been enjoying the content that we have curated.

We are now just over six months in, and have produced a short film to outline some of the key issues we have been raising awareness of. It features contributions from a team of OU academic staff including Professor Marie Gillespie, Evgenia Iliadou, Joanne Vincett, Professor Simon Lee, Dr Sara de Jong and Dr Fidèle Mutwarasibo and insights from Patrick Page from Duncan Lewis Solicitors. The film covers detention, the hostile environment, the right to seek asylum, communities’ response to the migration ‘crisis’, the demonisation of migration and the importance of raising awareness on immigration, asylum and detention of migrants.
