The OU has received funding to offer PhD studentships in Maths.

The grant of £146,000 was given by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council to the OU School of Mathematics and Statistics and can be used to fund any area of the mathematical sciences and will fund two PhD studentships for four years.

OU project lead, Dr Andrey Umerski, Head of School, Mathematics and Statistics said:

“The Open University has a rich, encouraging environment for full-time and part-time research in the mathematical sciences, supporting campus-based and distance research, and including significant diversity of students in age, ethnicity, gender and nationality.”

One of the studentships has now been offered to a student who will study pure mathematics over the four-year period of the grant. A second will be recruited to begin in February 2021.
