The Open University is proud to be hosting Harmonies4Harmony 2018, a music festival designed to celebrate diversity and inclusion. The event will mark National Hate Crime Awareness Week 2018. The Open University is one of the leading institutional members of Citizens:MK, a local chapter of Citizens UK. Launched in 2010, Citizens:MK is a growing alliance of diverse community groups which includes churches, mosques and schools, all working together for a thriving, inclusive and fairer Milton Keynes. The Open University’s representatives are among the leaders of Citizens:MK’s Fight Against Hate campaign team.

The National Hate Crime Awareness week takes place every October. It aims to raise awareness of crimes motivated by hate on the basis of race, religion, sexual identity, sexual orientation and disabilities, among others.

Harmonies4Harmony will bring together pupils from Milton Keynes’ primary and secondary schools. It will feature performances by pupils from seven local schools including:

  • Great Linford Primary School
  • Jubilee Wood Primary School
  • Summerfield Primary School
  • Lord Grey
  • Sir Herbert Leon
  • Stantonbury International School
  • St Paul’s

Leaders from Thames Valley Police, MK Council, Network Rail, MK Dons and Arriva Bus will be in attendance. They will respond to messages from the songs performed at the festival and give updates on pledges they made at Citizens:MK’s Accountability Assembly held on 24 April 2018.
